African American Life In Pittsburgh

I have spent the last several months researching all the things happening in the Greater Pittsburgh area.  I have come to realize how segmented our region really is and how that is keeping many of us from experiencing the great social life this area has to offer.

Being an African American man I really wanted to see what the region offered for African Americans.  Initially I could not find much beyond a few clubs or bars and the typical parties but after more extensive research I have come to realize our region offers a great deal for any culture if your willing to search it out.

When I got involved in "What's Happening In Pittsburgh" it was for the very reason that finding events and places to go that covered all races, nationalities and religions was not easy to do in the Greater Pittsburgh area.  We have been so segmented and I believe we are missing the great things offered in this city.  On our Website we have not listed events based upon race, creed or nationality, but we have chosen to simply list what is happening by region and category.

I want my African American brothers and sisters to know that this city represents us well.  There is much to do here and get involved in.  We have great churches that put on great events, we have great civic organization, we have great clubs, bars and parties, we have great comedy and arts events and they are tailored to the African American Community.   We may only be 13% of the region but we are well represented here and we should be involved and committed to supporting the great events offered in our region.

I also would challenge you to consider looking at what the city has to offer period.  There are so many great places to see and events to attend on a weekly basis.  I hope you will stop pass the website many times and experience the best Greater Pittsburgh has to offer.

I hope you will enjoy the rest of Black History month and will learn some of the fascinating things African Americans have done in our world and in our region.  We are well represented and only need to be well informed.  Have a great day and make a difference by the life you live.
